Chivas USA 2012

Today's item in my MLS collection is the CD Chivas away shirt from 2012. Chivas are actually from Mexico, they have a team that plays in the Primera Division but also have a MLS franchise team.  Unfortunately they didn't have a great campaign, finishing bottom of the western conference.

Chivas play their home matches at the Home Depot centre in LA, which is the same stadium as MLS champions LA Galaxy. The "goats" as they are known do have a good history of producing US national team players, Jonathan Bornstein, Sacha Kljestan and Brad Guzan who's currently at Villa.  Also a certain ex Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel turned out for Chivas in 2011.

This was probably my favourite shirt from the MLS last season, so when I saw it in the sale on the mls web site I couldn't resist....

Vancouver Whitecaps 2012

The final shirt in the MLS series is my Vancouver Whitecaps away jersey from the 2012 season. This top is particularly special as its printed with the ex Watford captain Jay DeMerit. Jay had a bit of a tags to riches tale, they even made a film about it, in five years he went from playing Sunday league football to marking Wayne Rooney out the game in the World Cup finals in 2010.

Seattle Sounders 2012

Todays post is the latest shirt in my MLS collection, its the Seattle Sounders 3rd shirt from the 2012 season.  I have to say this is probably the most striking shirt I have in my collection, the official colours are cyan and "electricity". The shirt was only worn a handful of games last season, most notably against Chelsea in the Heralife International Cup. I suspect the shirt will be used again next season as the MLS clubs tend to get two seasons out of them, unlike european clubs who change every season!
This was purchashed brand new with tags from eBay for $49, bit of a bargain as they usually retail at $80, also this would not be available in the UK so this is a super rare shirt.

MLS All Stars 2010

MLS All Star Shirt 2010

The next shirt in my MLS collection is the All star jersey from 2010. This is the "Formotion" version of the shirt, as worn by the players. The main difference between the ClimaCool version and this is that all the badges are stuck on rather than sewn (to reduce friction and irritation) and the tighter fit.

Highligts of the match can be found here.

Team - MLS All Stars
League - MLS (USA)
Year - 2010
Brand - Adidas
Purchased from - eBay
Notes - As worn in the All star game V Man Utd on Jul 28th 2010. Man Utd ran out 5 -2 winners in the 15th consecutive all star game.

MLS Collection

MLS All Stars

Its been a while since my last update so this is a bumper edition, showcasing my collection of MLS jerseys....

I've been a fan of the MLS since its inception back in the 90's, setting the video recorder for 4am to record Dallas Burn V Tampa Bay Mutiny on Channel 5! The MLS has come a long way since those days, with the help (and exposure) of a certain former England captain...

First up from my collection is the super rare MLS All Stars jersey (as the yanks call them!).  I picked up this little treat while I was in New York last year, headed over to New Jersey to find a little soccer store (getting very American now!) called the onion bag, I'd heard they were able to print up shirts with the official MLS namesets and couldnt find anyway in Manhattan to do it, so seemed like a good excuse to ventrue away from the island, as it happed the trip was very useful, not only did I get my Philadelphia shirt printed (pics to follow) but I stumbled across this All Stars shirt in a local sports store, Modells, and even better it was reduced to $50 from the usual price of $80!  Not only that but I had my 1st ever Taco Bell experience, all in all it was a good day.
